what do you really need in life?

We spend our lives trying to get so many things: get an education, get a good job, get friends, get married, get a house, get a promotion, get ahead, and many more. But in the rush to get those things, we forget a more important one: the need to get wisdom. You can get every other thing in life, but if you don’t get wisdom you’re going to struggle.

Wisdom isn’t about being the smartest, the loudest, or the most opinionated, it’s about knowing and doing the right thing when you aren’t sure what the right thing is. It’s knowing when to stay and when to move on, when to speak up and when to stay quiet, when to push forward and when to back off. It’s about navigating the grey areas of life with skill and foresight.

That’s the main reason I love reading so much, it’s the easiest way to get wisdom (experience being the best way, but also the hardest). Whether it’s a biography, business book, or the Bible, I want to spend as much time as possible with wise men, women, and the source of wisdom, God.

Most people don’t think much about getting wisdom, since it doesn’t give an instant return, can’t be shown off on Instagram, and will never make you the coolest person at a party. But trust me, if you really want to live a good life, do everything you can to get it!
